Weather Impacts - Rain Outs and Field Use Protocol

On days of inclement weather or in the day(s) following a storm, town staff will check field conditions throughout the day to determine if fields are suitable for maintenance and game preparation.  Crews will determine if conditions are safe and playable, or if conditions will be worsened by maintenance equipment. This determination will be made no later than 3 pm on game days.  If a game is canceled, the Parks and Recreation Coordinator will contact the appropriate league and the local coach to have the cancellation posted.  It will then be the responsibility of the coaches to communicate with players and opposing coaches. If a weather event happens after 5 pm, it will be up to the discretion of the coach of record and the umpire, and will be the responsibility of the coaches to communicate accordingly.  If umpires are scheduled through Lyons Recreation, they will be notified as well.

The Town of Lyons Parks and Public Works staff works hard to meet the expectations of coaches and players in keeping our fields in excellent playing condition for the season.  We urge coaches, players, and the public to use an abundance of caution when deciding whether fields should be played on when wet or in poor condition.  If usage results in damage or worsening of condition, town staff may have to shut fields down for prolonged periods for repair and maintenance.  If in doubt, stay out.
