ROAD BIKERS

Lyons is a hub for road bikers and as a launch pad to assents up the Rockies and cruses through the plains to the east alike. Below are just some routes that many road bikers enjoy.

Peak-to-Peak Loop

[50 mile loop via Ward, CO]
The South St. Vrain Canyon (Colorado State Highway 7) connects to the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway where bikers can drop down at Ward and loop back to Lyons via 36 along the base of the foothills.

Estes Park Loop

[55 mile loop]
Head up the South St. Vrain Canyon (Colorado State Highway 7) to arrive at Estes Park, and then loop back to Lyons via Highway 36. Both these canyons offer fabulous views and great rest areas.

Rocky Mountain Assent

[40 mile assent]
For those wanting to conquer the Rockies, Lyons is the perfect starting spot for your assent. Take either the South St. Vrain Canyon (Colorado State Highway 7) or Highway 36 to Estes Park before the final climb in the Rocky Mountain National Park on Trail Ridge Road.

Front Range Plains

As well as having amazing mountain routes and loops Lyons has access to the plains on the east side of town. Highway 36 to Boulder connects to 75th via Nelson Road, Saint Vrain Road, and Hygiene Road.

MOUNTAIN BIKERS

Lyons has an abundance of mountain bike trails that people from across Colorado come to enjoy. Below are some of the highlights.

Hall Ranch

[7 miles of moderate/difficult bike trails]
Just west of Lyons, you'll find the rolling grasslands and sandstone buttes of Hall Ranch. The over 3,000 acres of open space provides excellent viewing opportunities for wildflowers, animals, and scenic landscapes.

Heil Valley Ranch / Picture Rock Trail

[13 miles of moderate bike trails]
With beautiful hanging valleys, picturesque vistas, and forest meadows that seem to cling to the sky, Heil Valley Ranch is a playground for wildlife. It only takes one visit to this 5,020-acre property to turn a sedentary person into an outdoor enthusiast.

Rabbit Mountain

[6 miles of easy/moderate bike trails]
Rabbit Mountain is located between Lyons and Longmont. It comprises over 2,733 acres with five miles of trails that take you over sweeping grasslands and through ridge top pine forests.

Lions Gulch Trail

[moderate bike trails]
The Lion Gulch trail offers access to the Homestead Meadows National Historic District, which is the location of a number of homesteads that were established in the late 1880's and inhabited through the 1940's. It is also part of critical winter range and migration corridor for elk.
