Stone Canyon Wildfire Updates
Wednesday, July 31, 2024 2:30 pm
Hello Lyons,
The Sandstone Summer Concert Series has been cancelled for tonight for multiple reasons, including poor air quality, winds expected to pick up this afternoon, aerial fire support near and above Lyons, as well as having the staging area for the Stone Canyon Fire with activity adjacent to Sandstone Park and Station 1 of the Lyons Fire Protection District. We thank you for your understanding.
Regarding the Stone Canyon Fire, firefighters will be using Town parks and facilities as needed to catch up on some rest and showers after working their long shifts on the fire line. We are grateful for all of the emergency personnel and support. Town Hall currently has cots on loan from Boulder County for firefighters to get some shut eye between their vigilant efforts to protect Lyons and the surrounding area.
Boulder County Office of Disaster Management (ODM) has been the lead agency for the Stone Canyon Fire near Lyons. They are responsible for issuing and/or rescinding any evacuation orders. We encourage all residents within the Town as well as unincorporated Boulder and Larimer Counties to sign up for alerts. Residents should continue to follow boulderodm.gov for more information about the fire. Text BOCOINFO to 888777 to sign up for updates from Boulder County ODM.
We recommend that residents ensure all of their electronic devices are fully charged. Wildfires are erratic and their behavior may change very quickly. All residents should be prepared to evacuate should it become suddenly necessary. Put important items (important documents - birth certificates, insurance policies, passports etc., prescription medication, credit cards, cash, spare chargers, personal sanitation supplies, flashlight, eyeglasses) together for their Go Bag, We have linked to a wildfire evacuation checklist for your use. It includes items to gather in advance for your Go Bag.
All of our emails to the community can be found on the Town website. https://www.townoflyons.com/list.aspx?PRVMSG=247
Please do not call 911 about the fire unless you are in immediate danger. Stay safe Lyons and continue to look out for each other.
