Fire Restrictions in National Forest Lands

Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and other local agencies responded to three fires since July 8, 2024

The Coulson Gulch Fire was reported by a ranger at the Button Rock Reservoir at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024. At that time, the fire was estimated to be half an acre located just west of Button Rock Reservoir. A Type 3 helicopter conducted bucket drops to assist with the fire. Crews on the ground constructed handlines and saw lines to help contain the fire. The fire was 100 % contained later that evening.

Around 3:00 p.m. on the same day, firefighters responded to the Dry Saint Vrain Fire just northeast of the Dry Saint Vrain Trailhead. At the time of detection, this fire was less than a quarter acre in size, but located in difficult terrain. A Type 3 helicopter and ground crews worked to help contain the fire. The Dry Saint Vrain fire was declared 100% contained at noon on July 10, 2024.

Investigations determined that both fires were caused by lightning strikes. A Multi Mission Aircraft conducted a lightning-detection mission and found no additional new starts in those areas.

On July 9, 2024 Forest Service firefighters assisted Boulder County in responding to a wildland fire off of Bunce School Road. An update from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office stated that the fire was contained around 3:00 p.m. on the same day.

Fighting wildfires is a collaborative effort, and so is preventing them. It is important to remember that Stage 1 Fire Restrictions remain in place until further notice.

Residents who are interested in receiving information and alerts may sign up for updates from the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Boulder Ranger District.
