Spring Snow Melt and Run-off
St Vrain Creek Rising
The St. Vrain Creek through Lyons is beginning to flow faster, as measured in cfs (cubic feet/second). Currently, we are experiencing average flows but anticipate increased water levels and turbidity. Experienced boaters will enjoy. Tubing is not recommended. A tubing ban will be considered at 600 cfs and is declared by the Sheriff's office. The City of Longmont has advised that they have started releasing water from Ralph Price Reservoir and anticipate routine spilling of its spillway within the next week. Each year the St Vrain rises in spring and early summer due to snow melt in the mountains. If you are interested in knowing the current rate of flow through town, the best site is the State’s gage station for Lyons. https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/stations/SVCLYOCO?params=DISCHRG

Bears Are Back Remove bird feeders, keep garbage secure, and only put out on the morning of your garbage pick up With the warm weather, bears are coming out, and they will start looking for food and getting into trash.
Taking precautions such as locking up trash and other potential food sources from bears is important to prevent them from becoming habitually reliant on these sources for food. Bears become more of a risk when they associate humans with a food source. It is very important for us to protect these animals and protect the public, and that is the responsibility of our community. If you do not have a bear proof bin, wait until the morning to put out your trash. Garbage kills bears.
