Planned Power Outage

Longmont Power Planned Outage Apple Valley, Groover Dr

Scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 25th

Customers who receive their electricity from Longmont Power will have an outage tomorrow, Wednesday October 25th, beginning at 8 am for Longmont Power to make repairs to their infrastructure. This does NOT affect Town of Lyons utility customers. It may affect those that live just outside the town limits, such as Apple Valley. Longmont Power has already notified its customers as well. This is an additional courtesy notice.

Please note that Lyons Communications (internet and tv) has a power supply in that area which may also affect their customers. They are also taking steps to minimize the disruption and outage time.

Hall Ranch Closure

Hall Ranch Closure
Wednesday, October 25, 2023

Prescribed burn if conditions allow

Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Sheriff’s Office Fire Management Program will conduct a prescribed burn on Wednesday, Oct. 25, conditions permitting. Hall Ranch will be closed for the day and should reopen on Thursday, Oct. 26. This will be the second of multiple burns planned for the park. Prescribed fires reduce woody debris on forest floors. Removing these hazardous fuels decreases the risk of extreme wildland fires.

Lyons Halloween Spooktacular

Spooktacular!
Saturday, October 28

· Kids activities and events at the Lyons Elementary School from 4 pm - 5:30 pm
· Chili Cook-off at 4:30 pm
· Foot Parade line-up at 5:45 pm
· Foot Parade at 6 pm, followed by trick-or-treating

To provide safe passage for the foot parade and for trick-or-treaters during the annual community Halloween festivities, the Town of Lyons will close Main St from 3rd Ave to 5th Ave from 5 p.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Side street traffic will be also be detoured accordingly. Traffic will be routed along Broadway with one lane in each direction (westbound and eastbound).

The closures are intended to increase safe passage for pedestrians (kids and parents), while at the same time allowing businesses, residents and guests to participate in the Halloween festivities. The closures will be set up and enforced by officers from the Boulder County Sherriff's Department, who will be stationed throughout downtown for safety. The Town of Lyons encourages residents to bring their children to the Lyons Elementary School and then downtown for a safe and fun Halloween celebration provided by the community’s local businesses, the Town and local non-profits.
Trick-or-treating families are encouraged to follow these safety tips:

·        Costumes should be highly visible with reflective materials.
·        To prevent tripping, costumes should not drag on the ground.
·        Props should not have sharp edges that could cause injury.
·        Carry a flashlight after dark.
·        Walk, don’t run.

Wildfire Partners Community Chipping Program

Boulder County Program

Wildfire Mitigation

Boulder County has taken a significant leap forward in its commitment to community safety and environmental stewardship with its recent launch of the Wildfire Partners Community Chipping Program. The program supports all county residents with managing the high-risk vegetation on their properties, fostering a safer, cleaner, and more fire-resilient environment for all through proactive measures to reduce wildfire risk.
The county chipping program is free to Boulder County residents, allowing adequate disposal of slash — green branches, and brush — in a safe and sustainable manner. The program is actively improving defensible space around properties and reducing the potential for fire to spread.

Key Points

  • To be eligible, one person or household assumes the role of “Chipping Event Host” for at least five properties.
  • Program FAQs
  • The Boulder County Chipping Program is a free service provided by the Wildfire Mitigation Sales Tax, approved by voters in Nov. 2022.

Learn More and Apply
A minimum of five participating neighbors is required to host a community chipping event. At each community event, a County approved chipping contractor will provide the chipping services and haul the chips to a partnering donation site. Learn more about the chipping program, eligibility criteria, application and scheduling process.
